Dried Fruit Cake - Cake -e- Miveye Khoshk

I like to translate foods' name to persian language. I know somehow it didnt correctly translated but i love to put 'e' to connect 2 words. For example for today's recipe fruit cake direct translation to farsi is Cake Miveye khoshk. but when i put 'e' between the first 2 words, it seems gives a better name :)

My mom requested this cake for some times, but I just managed to bake it yesterday. This is a very easy recipe that you dont need mixer. My dried fruit cake - old skool way:

Ingredients:
~ 200g karreh (butter)
~ 2 cups of flour (art)
~ 1 cup of sugar (shekar)
~ 2 cups of dried fruits (mivehye khoshk)
~ 2 eggs (tokhme morgh)
~ 1 tspn baking soda
~ 1 tspn cream of tar tar
~ a pinch of salt
~ 1 cup of water

Methods:
1. Sift flour, take 2 tbsp and mix with dried fruits.
2. In a pot, take 3 tbsp of sugar, with medium heat fry the sugar until golden, pour water.
3. Add in the dried fruits and butter, when the butter melted, add in the baking soda and cream of tar tar and salt. The mixture will start to bubbling, turn off the heat. Let it cool for 15 minutes.
4. After 15 minutes, add in eggs and flour, mix well.
5. Pour the mixture to baking pan, bake for an hour 170C.

Next time I thinkI am gonna addsome cinnamon powder to add the kick!

Sup Tulang Merah Singapore- Soup-e-ustukhun-e-gusfand ghermez Sangapor

Me and bff have lots of sweet khatere (memories) with sup tulang merah. I introduced him with this food early in our relationship. At first, he reluctant to eat this as the bright red color which symbolised spiciness. You know, most of Iranians dont like spicy foods, which means they missed one of the best taste in foods :P. But it is actually not spicy. It is tasty and aromatic with spices. When you deep the french baguette into the gravy, so bliss as it absorb the well mix ingredients. Oh, typing this make me wana drive to Beach Rd.

Yeah, we always eat sup tulang at Beach Rd Singapore, the most famous place for sup tulang. Actually, sup tulang is Singapore specialties. You cant find at any other place that have same taste like the ones at Singapore. Plus near sup tulang stall at Beach Rd, there is a bean curd stall that sell the best soya ever. Normally bff will buy $10 sup tulang, $10 bbq chicken wings and more than 2  bean curd. We always bought extra bean curd to take away home. And,,always he bought $2 tissues from one apek that come to each table. One time bff bought lots from that chinese man because he said that apek is so bichareh (pity). Yes, generous bff :)

Last weekend my family from Singapore came. Before that I asked them to buy for me sup tulang but they said, they will make it at my home. Ok, so they brought about 5kg bone steaks and all the spices needed all away from Singapore. So, we had a blast kenduri of sup tulang over the weekend.
I asked for the recipe and hope to make it my own later. So, check it out!!

The taste a bit different coz this is more aromatic and thicker sauce, and less food coloring is better

Ingredients:
~ Lamb bone steaks 5kg
~ 3 Screw pine leaves
~ 3 lemon grass
~ 2 inch ginger
~ 2 inch galangal
~ 1 packet of bistik spices
~ A handful of dried chillies*
~ 3 onions*
~ 10 garlic cloves*
~ 1 inch of ginger*
~ 1 inch of galangal*
~ 1 can of tomato puree
~ Artifical red coloring
~ Cabbage
~ Coriander leaves
~ Water
~ Oil

Methods:
1. Boil the bones with screw pine leaves, lemon grass, ginger and galangal for 2 hours. This step is to get rid of the "smell" of lamb which somehow hated by Malays. After 2 hours, throw away the water from the boiling process as to get rid the fat of the lamb which is believed will cause nausea after eating.

2. Blend all the * ingredients,
3. In a pan, fry the blended ingredients with bistik spices until fragrant.
4. In the pot of the bones, pour some water to cover the bones and stir in the fried ingredients.
5. Add in the tomato puree and food coloring. The amount of food coloring is depend on you..
6. Let everything simmer until the bones soft but not until the meat fall of the bones, let say for another hour.
7. Taste with salt and sugar.
8. Serve. On top of it sprinkle some shredded cabbage and coriander leaves.

p/s: my advice if you eat sup tulang merah is dont be shy and explore more. You need to use your bare hands to maximise satisfaction. never use straw to suck the bone marrow. but suck with your lips straight away from the bone or you can knock the bone on the plate to let the marrow out. Must eat all the meat all around the bone. Bring your own knife if you shy to bite the bone :)

Good Luck!!

Me and songs, not food anymore

Previously I always update my cooking but lately I've lost my passion. Its not that I didnt cook but I cook normal foods just to fill my stomach not to enjoy. All because of the distance, the separation. Before this I thought I am strong that I can live just like before when he is here, but slowly I am losing it. His absence has diverted my passion to things that related to him like persian songs and movies but not foods coz I think I dont enjoy any type of foods anymore. Not like before where everyday I browsed on Persian foods recipe :(

I just hope I can keep strong a little bit as the numbers decreasing coz soon he will be here and the pain will gone.

Today exactly 3 months he's away. I made a video, just for him coz delam kheili barash tang shodeh

pls scroll down for the updated infos..

Lately, I realized that many pages created in facebook. Most of the pages are very informative and interesting. I spent most of my time surfing facebook to read the pages rather than reading updates from friends. Somehow it provides knowledge and let my brain working! One of the pages is غلط نامه کدخدا. I'm not sure what is that means. Direct translation would be "wrong letter chief". Maybe it means "the head of wrong things"? I dont know. What I know is that the posts are very funny and make sense. Some I could understand and some couldnt. Here I share some that I know.
1. سانتافه pronounce as san-ta-feh is one of Hyundai car brand, the above picture shows "sun", "ta"(arrow which pictured "ta" which in farsi means until) and "feh" the word ف or pronounce as "feh

These has made my day :P. how about you??

*update 6/3/2013
- a friend of mine (Ms Sheida) translated for me the meaning of kadkhoda.
In Iran there are 14 volume of comprehensive dictionary. A man name Mr Dehkhoda has written and compiled all of it. The name of compilation is لغت-نامه دهخدا (pronounce laghat - nameh dehkhoda), which means the dictionary words of Dehkhoda.
Later on, a brilliant Iranian opened a facebook page with name غلط نامه کدخدا (pronounce ghalat nameh kadhoda) which means the wrong words of "leader of village"

Kheili jaleb!!!

Third Farsi Video: My Journey

Haha. Funny thumbnail. Ayo, Youtube could you give a more appropriate thumbnail? This is is the best among 3. Pity me.

So, this is my 3rd video uploaded. I talked about my experience with Iranian foods. Also, there is a post at Malezitarin about this. Enjoy and have a great Monday!

Weekend with Aaron

The days are wet and gloomy. Allah grant the land with rain, cooling the things that should be chilled after a long warm fights..Life is always rotating, nothing will stay on top.Sometimes we have to go down under so that we can look up, and be grateful for what we have. Because most of the times, when we are high, we tend to forget what we used to be. And that make us arrogant, and forget to the hearts that we should care, who support us all this while. Nauzubillah..

Sometimes I thought that being a kid is better than adult because kid doesnt have to be sensitive or have grudge of something. But, this is life, we cant run from problems. Important that we have faith so that we wouldnt diverted to the wrong path.

I wish I can be just like Aaron :)

Enough of rambling, how was everyone's weekend? Mine full of loves from family because Aaron was here yo! Aaron is my smallest nephew. So, when Aaron is here, maksu doesnt have any other work other than cuddling him. Aaron has grew up! At 8 months, he entertained us much! Lately he can make a bird sound. When I asked "Aaron how is bird's sound?" He will make a "hoo hoo" sound (influence from educational program on his tablet). So funny. So chubby Aaron. Aaron also can recognize uncle at Iran when we tango-ed.

Aaron 5 minutes after arriving. Tantrum!!

Funny when uncle sent this photo, a restaurant with Aaron (Aroon) name at Kish Island  :)

Asri, hame barmigarde khunashun, dobare too in khuneh tanhammmm.... :(

Listen..listen..listen phenomenon

Today's entry might be dragged out from my normal topics. This week, a video from a forum held at UUM became a hit and created a phenomenon "listen..listen..listen". I dont want to describe more what the video is all about. What I want to say is that the election war in Malaysia has started and I see lots of ways the parties done to attract votes.

I am proudly say that I am a pro government based on my personal observation of the positive things they have done to my country. I admit that before this I never have sceptical thinking to the government as I did not feel something wrong with them.

But, as time passed especially after Tun Mahathir handed the post, my view started to changed. I am still a government supporter but I think at some parts the government should be criticised. After the issue of learning science and maths in english, I think that government did not do the right thing. When they introduced the system, I supported it 100% but why should change back? As Tun Mahathir said, the cancellation of the learning language has made Malaysia move backward not forward. I did not understand well of the problem but for me, good things why should be terminated? Is this one of the way to gain votes? By jeopardise the children's future?

Another thing that I realize is the news in Malaysia that has been handle by government. Lately I have switched from watching TV3 as sometimes I feel the news are funny by means over controlled by pro-gov.

Back to the title, the listen listen phenomenon get lots of feedback from Malaysia especially us, the university students. I tried to find back the full video but couldnt find. Maybe they have removed it. But one video related to the issue I found tonight is very hilarious. Oh man, I love the way you created the video. Selambeee jee :) Keep it up boy!!

Our 5th year

Today marked our 5th year since we said "hi" to each other. I just cant believe that we've known each other for half a decade. The journey is very beautiful, and I am ready for more. Pray the best for us. Might Allah grant us with with all His blessings. Amin..

Iranian Film in Malaysia - Filme Irani dar Malezi

I was watching a cooking show at TV al hijrah. The chef is an arab but he speak malay language, i was giggling throughout the show because he used some words in a funny way. Then I was thinking to iranian that they might as well giggling to the ways i speak farsi :p .

During the advertisement, I saw that they will be showing iranian movie tonight right after the cooking show. So i stick in front of the tv and watch the movie. I think it was a bit old movie. The title is tick tack, about 2 boys with a watch. The movie ended after one hour when supposedly it is a 2 hour movie. I dont know why, but all in all it was a good movie, as usual. The best thing for me is that I can understand the movie even if i close my eyes without looking at the subtitle. Some part they did not translated it completely. For example, at one part the teacher said, "bache, sahket bash, boro sarejat beshin" but the subtitle only wrote "go and sit" when supposedly they write "kids, silent please, please go to your place and sit". Well well..hehe

If I am an iranian, i will be very proud to see my country's film played in other country. Before this also i ever watched maybe 4-5 times iranian films/dramas in Malaysia's TV. 2 of them are serial drama. Even film "Joddaye Nader az Simin" (The Separation) was shown for astro box office channel.

Ok. Enough for entertainment. Tomorrow is Monday, so be prepared folks!! Monday blues is coming :)
Bye

Nasi Minyak (Berenj-e-Roghani)

Khahar Zadeyeman

Hello peeps..hello blog..hello donya..How was your day today? Mine started with a bad headache. Dont know why. Maybe because I sleep late as I watched an Iranian film title "Shame Irani". It was a hilarious film. The concept is like Befarmaeed Sham (Manoto). Maybe I will review it in another post. Back to the story, I felt better after taking panadols. Just hope that it wont come again as I have mountains of works.

Switch channel..

I am going to write about my niece or in farsi dokhtar khahar (sister's daughter) or khahar zadeh (a new friend taught me this). I have 7 nieces all. I have a very close relationship with them especially the ones living nearby my mom's house. Izzati is one of them. She grew up with me. Anything I do, she will always be by my side. And not surprising that she also learn farsi with me but not as extreme as I :). She has one small note book to write farsi words, the simple one like numbers, greetings and animal names. She brought it to school and showed to her friends. Recently I found her secret diary and she wrote "Azizam" to her friends (because she left primary school and started secondary schooling, that diary is like to record her memories with friends) which I taught it was her feeling to express "I love you my friends". Oh, I hope she wouldnt notice that I read her diary. :))

Every time we are in car, she will be the one to turn on the radio for Iranian songs. Normally, she will fight with Putri (another niece) for radio. But always Izzati won because I said stay with the USB, dont change. haha. The same thing goes with my phone, she will always steal my phone silently and play Iranian songs. Sometime I got angry because when the phone is in her hand, dont dream to get it back before I scold her.

Previously when she was 10 years old, I recorded her singing Mano Bebakhsh by KamranHooman. I uploaded it on Youtube as a memory. Even there are another videos of her singing that I've put on youtube. My reason is just I dont want the memory to gone. By the way, the malezitarin team has found that video after 3 years and it has been viewed more than 1000 times in one night. For me, when I watch back the video it was funny to see how a 10 years old Malay kid can fall in love with a song by  Iranian singer, at the same time I feel proud because she become part of my journey in learning farsi and Iranian culture. For those who also laughed and smiled to the video, if you noticed she wore an adult shoes, and yes it is mine. :) Thats what one of every girls' childhood memories, wearing her aunts or sister or mom's things. By now, she is a grown up 13 years old teenager who achieved great results upon her UPSR examination and placed in a first class in her new school. But her interest in Iranian music has never stopped. Last month she asked me to put all of Iranian songs that I have to her PC, and now her favourite song is Ye Harfaee by Googoosh, just like Makusu (nickname for youngest aunt).

My pray is that she will always be my entertainer forever.

Another 5 Years To Come

I just renewed my passport. This time I chose for 5 years instead 2. Economically and logically it is better because for 2 years we should pay RM100 but it is valid only for 1 and half year for overseas and 1 and 1 and half quart for ASEAN countries. But the price for 5 years for me is expensive and not affordable for low to middle income people, RM300. وادفک (sorry for impoliteness but I just found out this from internet written by iranian and I think its cool, its like fusion-ing english abbreviation :)). For me the government should decrease the price as we the people feel burden and can stop our intentions to explore the world. Or economically, maybe it is one of their strategies to decrease the amount of cash out from country. Chemidunam.

Well, back to the story. I spent about 4 hours at the immigration  office today. Very tiring and to kill the time I managed to draft my interview questions asked by the sv as well as memorizing one song from Maziar Fallahi. Also I met my degree mate, Nora there. She came to collect her new passport after lost it at car wash. The message is never leave your car at the car wash while you go to other place. Never ever trust car wash. I heard so many same stories, even I have friend who lost his lorry at car wash or should I say lorry wash. haha. whatever it is, the bottom line is here in Malaysia never trust people you dont know. Especially for those expatriates because criminals are watching you more than to us the locals. A little clumsiness will become disaster. This friend asked "are you going to Iran again?" since I renewed my passport. I just smiled, maybe...somewhere in this year..eshala..
1223 and 120 to go :(

Khodahafez!!

Ghorbune Zaban-e Farsi Besham

Monday blues in the air..Is there really a monday blues for me or naturally monday blues is inside me??Haha.
Tomorrow I have meeting with sv, hopefully everything will be fine and i can speed up my writings. Ok leave study aside or my wrinkles getting worst :p, now I am going to tell what happened today that has killed my monday blues.

Yesterday I uploaded second video on youtube about my journey in learning farsi. Somebody has found it and spread the news at malezitarin.com. Afterwards, my video rating increased. I received some responses about the way I speak farsi which is good for me to improve my farsi. Most of them are positive thoughts and also negative comments as such they thought I wanna show off. Well, I am not that kind of person who will go here and there to show what I have. I am sharing the video at first place is for my reference in the future because for me the experience of learning farsi, persian culture and anything related to iran will not come to everyone. I categorised myself as being lucky because I am not forced to learn but it came from my heart coincidently after I met bff. That is why I want to documented it so in the future I can flashback and see this beautiful journey.

What happened today has motivated me to learn more and I hope this is my stepping stone to impress myself of my capabilities. Till then, keep moving peeps and you'll learn something!

Bff corrected me; singer mishe khanande na khanandaye :)

Football dar Malezi Frenz Cup

Hello..its 2.30 a.m. and I am still wide awake. Just tango-ed with bff. :)

Tonight there was a football match between team Persepolis Iran vs Slovakia final for Frenz Cup under 15. I was watching it while tango-ing with bff. Even I dont like much football but when it goes anything about Iran, I will like it. haha what a cliche. Of course I have to support my national team but they lost. The best thing is, I have another team to support. Haha. You got it? No right (proud)

Unfortunately, even they played good, they lost in penalty. No problem bache! Second place is also to be proud of. Ok lah, suddenly I feel sleepy. Good night world!

Us watching football through Tango. Thanks God for the technology

Tiring Day

This post is supposedly to be published yesterday, but since I was really exhausted, I just managed to finish it today. As mentioned previously, I attended a conference at university for 2 days. That was my 1st ever conference.

The conference was not as fancy as other international conference, hence the fees also not fancy :) Normally, participants divided into groups for separate presentation based on the particular fields. But this time, we were sharing everything from first to end. There were approximately 60 participants and imagine you have to sit from 9 to 5 for 2 days watching and listening to each presenter. It was tiring but at the same time I enjoyed it because I feel like I am accepted in the group where we share ideas and getting to know other researches outside our field of study. Importantly, this conference has opened up my mind that academics is not so boring. Selected papers will be published in scopus index journal and I hope mine will be one of those . if it is selected I will be very proud of myself because that my paper is 99% my work and 1% correction from SV. By the way, I was one of the best presenter yesterday. Just cannot believe that. haha

I hope after this my enthusiasm in academics will boost and be more active in my work. Oh ya, I met my old friend at the conference. Grace is now in 5th sem and I really like her. Till then, bye!

Grace and me
